Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine -- The Cradle of Superior TCM Doctors
Established in 1958, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM) is one of the earliest universities of TCM in China. The University has an excellent learning environment with state of the art, a distinguished teaching faculty and staff of more than 3,200. It is highly regarded and respected around the world. There are 15 colleges, departments, schools and institutions, including College of TCM, College of Chinese Materia Medica, College of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, College of Nursing, College of TCM Engineering, College of Humanities and Management, International Education College and etc., covering from undergraduates, masters, doctoral programs and post-doctoral fellowships. Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina, TCM Internal Medicine are the state key programs. At present time, there are over 12,000 students enrolled in various programs in the University.
TUTCM owns six affiliated hospitals and 30 teaching hospitals, which serve as important centers for clinical practice. The First and Second Teaching Hospitals of TUTCM are ranked First Class and national drug clinic research center, together have more than 2,000 beds and 16 clinical teaching and research offices. The First Teaching Hospital has been approved by the state as the largest Acupuncture & Moxibustion center in China, National Clinical Research Center of Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Provincial Demonstration Hospital of TCM. The Second Teaching Hospital specializes in the Integration of TCM and Western Medicine, with treatment and research on Gynecology and Encephalopathy, and has a Research Center of TCM Rare Diseases. The two teaching hospitals are well equipped with modern facilities and doctors possess great skill in techniques. Both hospitals have excellent reputations and are trusted by the more than 7,000 out-patients whom they serve daily.
International University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (IUTCM), authorized by the State Education Committee of the People’s Republic of China, was established in 1992 in TUTCM, and has become the national center for foreign students in TCM education. Each year there are nearly 2,000 international students from 60 countries/areas studying in the university. IUTCM has established cooperation with universities, research and medical institutions from more than 50 countries/areas and enjoys a high reputation. It hosts the Teaching Instructive Committee of Traditional Chinese Medicine by Ministry of Education (MOE) and Educational Instruction Committee (EIC) of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS). It is Educational Aid Center for Africa and Asia authorized by MOE, TCM International Cooperation Center by State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM) and National Center for International Research authorized by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST).
The Education Center of IUTCM provides a gracious environment, well equipped with modern facilities for teaching, accommodation, dining and entertainment. The living accommodations are superior and offer a choice of single or double rooms or private suites. There is a Journal and E-reading Room available for students in IUTCM.
I. Applicant Requirements
A. Bachelor Program:
·Foreign Students, Chinese from Hong Kong , Macao , Taiwan or Overseas Chinese
· Fluent in Chinese Language
· Senior High School Graduates, Those with Equivalent Degree or Above
Applicants under 18 should proceed with notarization of the guardian.
B. Master’s Program (One of the Following):
· TCM Bachelor’s Degree
· Bachelor’s Degree, and Bearer of TCM or Acupuncturist License in his home country
· Bachelor’s Degree, and has completed the designated medical courses
· Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Preparation, Crude Drug, Pharmacology or other related majors (For Chinese Materia Medica)
C. Doctoral Program (One of the Following):
· TCM Master’s Degree
· Master’s of Concerning Western Medicine Subjects, and has completed the designated TCM courses
· Master’s Degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Preparation, Crude Drug, Pharmacology or other related majors (For Chinese Materia Medica)
D. Certificate Study Program:
Interest in TCM, Acupuncture and Moxibustion

The reading room, library and computer rooms are open from 8:00 to 21:00.
